Neuromuscular Dentistry

We have the J5 Myotronics TENS unit.  It is a battery operated device that delivers controlled, periodic, bilateral electrical stimulation to help provide muscle relaxation, increased blood circulation and increased range of motion.

For patients that has major TMD dysfunction and pain or occlusal problems we use the J5 Myotronics TENS unit to relax cervical and oral facial muscles to obtain a bite registration that is ideal for the TMJ and muscles to work synergistically.

An orthotic or nightguard can be fabricated based on the bite registration.  This treatment may help some patients with chronic headaches that are related to TMD dysfunction.

Applications of the J5 Myotronics TENS unit are:

• Relax muscles and establish a physiologic occlusion
• Take occlusal registrations
• Take denture impressions
• Treat TMD dysfunction and associated pain
• Relieve symptoms associated with muscle spasm
• Increase local blood circulation
• Increase mandibular range of motion
